Discover Your Passion

July 8th, 10:51
One of the biggest assets I have found to help me make decisions and think things through is my journal. When you write things down, you will find your mind will be clearer and it will be easier to make decisions.
One of the reasons that writing things down clears the mind is that subconsciously your brain will not let go of anything that is important and should not be forgotten. So your thoughts are constantly focusing on these significant items making sure you don’t forget them.
As soon as you write down the item of major importance the hyper activity of your brain calms down. It is no longer so crucial to try and remember this item, since it is now safely written in your journal.
Now your mind is clear to focus on other things.
One of the major decisions in life is more a discovery rather than a decision.
Simply ask yourself the question “what do I REALLY want to do in life”?
Visualize yourself being free to do ANYTHING you would like to do, with no obstacles to hold you back. Take time to think about this question.
The answer to this question will help you to discover the direction for your life.
When you are just a teenager or even in your 20s or 30s, life seems eternal and often these decisions are not deemed as important. I am always excited to meet young folk in their teens or 20s who DO know where they are going. They have a terrific opportunity to enjoy a great life fulfilling their highest dreams.
However, if you have already past these years (even decades past these years) don’t fret. You can STILL find your passion, and make the rest of your life the best part of your life.
Today is not just the first day of the rest of your life – it can be the first day of the BEST part of your life. It’s YOUR decision.
Here are some questions I have used to discover my passions in life:

What am I doing now that I would really rather not do?
The answer to this question may be very obvious to you, or you may enjoy most things you are doing. If you do enjoy most things, leave this question and come back to it later.

What am I not doing that I would really like to do?
Do you have a list of things you would like to do “some day”? What is your plan that will lead to you being able to enjoy these things? What? Don’t have a plan? Of course you do! You know that that “some day” won’t jump out of the bushes when least expected and say “here I am” right?

What am I doing now that I could delegate to someone else, leaving me time for more important things?
We all only have 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week. No amount of wishing is going to change that. Even if you do enjoy everything you are doing now, there WILL be some things you enjoy more than others.
So now it is time to decide on some priorities.
Make a list of all the things you are doing.
Add a grade beside each item (for example on a scale of 1-10, how much do I really enjoy doing this?).
This will help you to decide what things you may want to delegate.

What do I enjoy doing the most?
If you are really unsure how to answer this question, the exercise from No#3 will help you come to the right conclusion.

What can I do right now to start adjusting my life so that it is in tune with my real passions (what I REALLY want and want to do in life).
This is a time for a little reflection: If you find you are not even pointed in the right direction, what can you do today to get you started in the right direction towards your real goals in life?
This could be something as simply as throwing out some possessions you have been hanging on to but that are not allowing room for new and better things to come in, or as complicated as saying goodbye to an old friend who may be a negative influence on your life.

What am I doing that I like doing but that is keeping me from doing something I would really like to do more?
This is time for action. You have already come to some conclusions as a result of the exercises that you have already done (if indeed you were following the previous suggestions).
Don’t forget to make some notations in your journal on a regular basis to help you keep yourself on track towards reaching not just the good but the BEST that you were born to create in this world.

Now move forward towards fulfilling your highest dreams!

LEADERSHIP

Leadership is an interactive conversation that pulls people toward
becoming comfortable with the language of personal responsibility
and commitment.

Since 'coaching' is a leadership competency, here are five principles
that guide respectful conversations.

1. When peers connect change happens. Effective coaching can
happen on the dance floor of conversation.

2. It's OK to begin a conversation by confronting the other person
with questions that seem awkward but set the stage for a respectful
exchange. Why waste time on small talk? Just ask to-the-point
information-seeking questions, like: 'What are you here for?
How do you want to spend our time together?'

3. Conversations are not meant to be structured. Be open to
conversations that you are unprepared for and focused on the
interests of the other person (not your purpose).

4. Don't get pulled into solving problems that may not matter to
the other person. Allow time for the person to get to what's really
important. Provide spaces where they can express their doubts and
fears by being a thoughtful listener--without taking on the responsibility
to fix or debate the issue. After all, you have invited the person to talk
about what matters to her or him, not you, so allow time for the
articulation of those thoughts and feelings.

5. Personal transformation happens when the right questions get
asked--not by providing answers. When you focus on the solution,
you are trying to sell the person something. When you allow people
to answer their own questions, they discover what they were not aware
of---and what is needed to move forward.

Personal transformation leads corporate transformation and ultimately national transformation -- one person
at a time.

setbacks

Setbacks and failures are a part of the journey to success. This is because there will be some strategies that fit your personality better than others. You will need to try some of these methods in order to find out what works best for you.
Of course this will mean that you are not completely certain that the strategy you are about to test will work for you, BUT you do know that something WILL work. You know this because you are always EXPECTING to win.
Most self made millionaires (if not all of them) will be able to tell you that they failed many times on their road to reach the position they are enjoying today. Many have even declared bankruptcy, some more than once, as they made their journey to financial freedom.
However they reached their goal because no discouragement or temporary failure could stop them. They never gave up. Their motto was: “I might have lost that battle, but I have not lost the war!”
The road to success is paved with risk taking.
Every time you step out to take risks, the possibility of failure is a reality. However you are a champion and not a loser. This means your focus will be on winning never on failing. The odds of winning and achieving your long term goal are always in your favor as long as you have determined to NEVER give up.
Our greatest glory is not found in never falling, but in getting up every time we do. ~ Confucius
You will reach success because you EXPECT to reach that goal.
It may not be immediate, but be assured you WILL arrive! This is because you are a champion.
Talking about champions; a champion
 Has a set of GOALS written down.
Do you have your goals written down?

 Creates a STRATEGY or plan based on research and study in his or her field. This strategy will be the pathway to reach the goals.
Have you worked out a strategy you can follow?
 Puts his or her plan into ACTION.
Do you have a daily action plan to follow your strategy? Are you ACTING on it?
 Always takes calculated RISKS.
Are you ready to take the necessary risks in order to reach your goals?
 Is NOT DISCOURAGED if the first strategy does not work out. He or she simply looks for another strategy that will lead them to their goal.
Do you get discouraged by things that don’t work out? Or do you simply look for another strategy?
 Always FOCUSES on success (expecting to win) when putting any plan and strategy into action.
Do you really EXPECT to reach your goals?

Your resistance to setbacks depends on your mindset.
As we have already noted, even if a battle is lost, the war is not. Notice that we have used the word “expect” several times in this post.
This is one of the big keys – what do you EXPECT to achieve?
Your expectations are your focus and your focus creates your mindset.

So how will you react to the little things along the way that may not succeed as you planned? This depends entirely on the strength of your mindset. Train your mind to think as a champion and you WILL win the war. Setbacks are natural but a comeback is a function of your decision and determination.

DIVINE EMOLE.

Character is one of the greatest motive powers in the world. In its noblest embodiments, it exemplifies human nature in its highest forms, for it exhibits man at its best. Character is developed by training all the forces and elements of life to act constructively in those sphere for which they were created, and to express themselves in those actions only that promote the original purpose of the being in man.
Every part of man has a purpose of its own, a purpose that it was created to fulfill. When those elements that belong to each part express themselves in such a way that the purpose of that part is constantly promoted, all actions are right; and it is character that causes those actions to be right. The true character tries to turn all the energies of the system into the best and most constructive channels, and it is the mark of real character when all the parts of man are working harmoniously for the building of greatness of mind and soul. When character is weak, there is more or less conflict among the mental action. Certain actions have the tendency to work for one thing, while the other actions are tending to produce the opposite.
Character is indispensable, no matter what one’s object may be. The presence of character produces a consciousness of growth throughout the system; and the stronger the character, the more keen one can feel that everything is being reconstructed, refined, perfected and developed into something superior.
When a man has lost character, he has lost everything. But when he loses everything with his character intact, he can still be of service to himself, his friends, his neighbour, to his society, his God and the entire world.
Men of genuine excellence, men of integrity, of high principle, of sterling honesty of purpose command the spontaneous homage of mankind. It is natural to believe in such men, to have confidence in them and to imitate them. E.g. Neil Armstrong, Thomas Edison etc.
Although genius commands admiration, character secures respect. Genius is more the product of brain-power while character is of heart-power. In the long-run, heart rules the life. Men of genius stand to society in relation to its intellect, as man of character to its conscience, while genius is admired, character is followed.
Great men are exceptional and greatness is a result of character. It is difficult to be great, more difficult to remain great because without strong character the attainment of greatness will be fruitless.
Character exalts a nation, transforms a society and distinguishes a man. A man of character is fearless, never worries and never becomes discouraged. When your character is developed, you are developed and when you are developed, your life is developed.
